Technology leadership for international K–12 education

Gladson Lawrence Jayaseelan

Technology is not simply infrastructure or software — it's an enabler of people, learning and long-term organisational growth.

Seventeen years in IT, and more than eight of them leading technology across international K–12 schools in India and Indonesia. Today I'm IT Head and Makerspace Facilitator at GMIS Jakarta, Bali & Semarang, where I've built the school's in-house ERP, its cybersecurity foundation and its newest Makerspace — often all three in the same week. I'm also partway through a Master of Arts in Education, chasing the same question that got me into this field: how do you build technology that people actually want to use?

Systems a school can own.

Most school technology is rented — platforms a school pays for indefinitely and never fully controls. My focus has been the opposite: build what a school can own, maintain and grow with, long after I've moved on.

My work sits at the intersection of technology leadership, education and hands-on building — connecting strategy with how teachers, students and school operations actually run day to day.

Rooted in the classroom

I came to infrastructure leadership through teaching, not around it — as an Education Technology Integrator working side by side with teachers before I ever led an IT department.

Strategic and hands-on

From setting technology direction with school leadership to writing the code and running the cable myself — I can operate at both levels, often at the same time.

Built to be owned

I design systems — ERP, identity, network — that a school owns outright, with its own data, rather than platforms it rents forever.

GMIS Jakarta, Bali & Semarang

In-house School ERP

Admissions, Student Information System, Library, Attendance, Purchase and Infirmary management — replacing costly third-party platforms and giving the school full, long-term ownership of its own data.

Sole full-time IT lead

Security & infrastructure overhaul

Centralized Google Workspace and SSO across every learning platform, a full CCTV, network and hardware refresh, and a cybersecurity foundation built from the ground up.

University of Sheffield · IB MYP Design

Makerspace at GMIS

Currently designing and building a Makerspace lab, grounded in a Makerspace Facilitator certification and IB MYP Design Category 1 — and a Master of Arts in Education, in progress.

For Technology Director, Head of Technology and senior education technology roles, I'd welcome the conversation.
